Full Description
January 2020. Breckland National Mapping Programme.
A possible mound of unknown date, which is perhaps the remains of a garden feature, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs (S1), within the grounds of Denton Lodge (NHER 46821). The archaeological significance of the mound is not entirely certain, and it could instead be of geomorphological origin. Equally, it could be an earlier feature – such as a Bronze Age round barrow – that was enclosed within the grounds of the lodge. It appears to sit within a broadly oval area of lower ground, which looks most like a natural depression but could be a degraded ring ditch. Although the mound is not particularly visible on later aerial photographs, vague remnants may be visible on recent Google Earth imagery (such as (S2)).
