Summary

A possible linear Bronze Age round barrow cemetery is visible as a series of low earthwork mounds on visualised lidar data. Three mounds, marked as Robyn Hoodes Buttes, are shown in this area on a 17th century map (NHER 15523), and other possible barrows have been identified in the vicinity. Another possible interpretation for the mounds is that they were instead (or also) pillow or clapper mounds associated with the medieval to post medieval Methwold rabbit warren (NHER 55577). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2015) it is probable that the earthworks still survive.

A possible linear Bronze Age round barrow cemetery is visible as a series of earthwork mounds on visualised lidar data (S1). The three mounds – NHER 63271, 63626 and 63627 – are very low and poorly defined, and their archaeological significance is questionable. A row of three mounds, marked as Robyn Hoodes Buttes, is shown in this area on a 17th century map (NHER 15523), and other possible barrows have been identified in the vicinity. Another possible interpretation for the mounds is that they were instead (or also) pillow or clapper mounds associated with the medieval to post medieval Methwold rabbit warren (NHER 55577).
