Full Description
February 2020. Breckland National Mapping Programme.
Probable 20th century military practice trenches are visible as earthworks on visualised lidar data (S1). They could be of Second World War date, but aerial photographs show that they were under plantation cover by the mid-1940s and like others identified in the vicinity they appear more likely to be of pre-Second World War date. They may therefore be of First World War date, or could relate to military training taking place in Breckland before 1914, or in the inter-war period. Several other similar trenches have been recorded to the east (NHER 63337, 57837 and 63338) and south (NHER 62024, 63258). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2015) it is probable that the earthworks still survive.
