Map

The first chapel built on this site was erected around 1777 for the Presbyterians. It was 40 ft (12.2m) by 25ft (7.6m) with a gallery facing the pulpit. Side galleries were later added and it was lengthened by 18 ft (5.5m) (S1). The Presbyterians ceased their meetings by around 1802, and the building became used by the Congregationalists. By 1838 the building on this site had been declared unsafe, and the Congregationalists moved to their new chapel on New Conduit Street.
The building remained empty for several years but a substantial floor was added and the upper room became known as the Albion Hall, and was let out for secular purposes, while Pickford's vans, which conveyed goods between King's Lynn and London, were housed below.
At a later date the floor was removed and the building reinforced with iron stays, the whole building then being known as the Albion Hall and used for lectures and social gatherings.
The site was purchased by the Unitarians in the 1870s, and the Albion Hall cleared away to allow the construction of a new Free Christian (Unitarian) church, school room and vestry.
