Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two additions, constructed from limestone, in the form of a freestanding wheel-head cross pattée. This memorial was erected to commemorate five servicemen from Lammas and Little Hautbois who died in World War One, and latterly five casualties (including one known civilian) from World War Two. The memorial was Listed Grade II in October 2017.

Location: St Andrews Churchyard, The Street, Lammas.
Type: Wheel-head Cross
Description:
The memorial is constructed from limestone, in the form of a tall freestanding wheel-head cross pattée. It is used to commemorate five servicemen from Lammas and Little Hautbois who died in World War One, and latterly five casualties (including one known civilian (S1)) from World War Two. It is described as having an “octagonal shaft that terminates in a moulded foot atop an octagonal base”. Which “rises from a four-sided pedestal with inverted chamfered stops to the top corners. The pedestal surmounts a four-sided plinth with moulded cap upon a single-step, block base” (S1). There are inscriptions and names on the plinth in incised lettering (S4). The former World War One dedication (Inscription A) is to the west face of the pedestal, with five names recorded on the plinth below, followed by the remaining dedication (Inscription B). The latter World War Two dates (Inscription C) is on the south face of the pedestal, with four names recorded on the plinth below. Following these is the associated fifth name, which lies below its own Inscription (D), and is documented to be a civilian casualty (S1)/(S4, photograph).
