NHER 63625 (Cropmark and Earthwork) - Possible mound, perhaps a Bronze Age round barrow

A possible undated mound, perhaps the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, is visible as an earthwork on visualised lidar data (S1). The mound is rather flat and irregular, but this could be the product of damage to the earthwork, from forestry or earlier ploughing, for example. A number of more prominent mounds have been identified in the vicinity (NHER 24628, 140m to the southwest, for example), and these have been interpreted as possible Bronze Age round barrows. If this interpretation is correct, the possible mound potentially forms part of a cluster of Bronze Age round barrows, in the area of what was formerly Methwold Warren (NHER 55577) and Cranwich Heath. An alternative possibility is that at least a proportion of the mounds relate to Methwold Warren, perhaps being used as pillow mounds, for example. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2015), it is probable that the earthwork still survives.
