NHER 64443 (Monument record) - Undated ditches

Evaluation of proposed development site.
The nine trenches excavated revealed little in the way of archaeologically-significant remains, with six undated ditches the only features exposed. Variations in the alignments of these features suggest that they probably represented at least two distinct phases of activity. The majority were however aligned either north-north-west to south-south-east or east-north-east to west-south-west and therefore parallel to the modern field boundaries - suggesting they were most likely of relatively recent date (although there are no corresponding boundaries depicted on 19th- or early 20th-century maps).
A reasonably thick subsoil layer was encountered in all the trenches.
No finds were recovered during this work.
