Summary

Geophysical surveys of this field undertaken in 2010 and 2019 identified nothing of clear archaeological significance. The only responses that could possibly represent features of interest were two short linear anomalies and single discrete anomaly, all in the eastern half of the field.

Map

September-October 2010. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development area (Field 10).
This survey revealed no anomalies of possible archaeological interest.
Although a number of very weakly positive linear anomalies were identified these almost certainly represent modern field drains.
See report (S1) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S2).
P. Watkins (HES), 11 February 2021.

February-March 2019. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of entire field, including block examined in 2010 (Area 4).
This survey appears to have had slightly better results, identifying a series of linear anomalies that had not been recorded in 2010. The majority of these are however likely to represent drainage features, the only exceptions being two short, differently-aligned anomalies in the eastern half of the field. A single discrete anomaly recorded as being of undetermined origin potentially represents a pit-type feature but this is far from certain.
See report (S3) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 13 February 2021.
