Summary

A geophysical survey of this field undertaken in two phases between 2010 and 2019 identified at least two linear anomalies that potentially represent infilled ditches of uncertain date. Neither corresponds with any of the former field boundaries depicted on 19th- and 20th-century maps.

Map

September-October 2010. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development area (Field 15).
Two linear anomalies of potential archaeological significance were identified, neither of which appears to correspond with any known late post-medieval or modern field boundaries. The more convincing of the two was a weakly positive east-to-west aligned anomaly crossing the centre of the field. The second anomaly was weakly negative and parallel to an adjacent field boundary - suggesting it could be a result of modern ploughing.
See report (S1) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S2).

September-October 2019. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of area to north of block examined in 2010 (Area 3).
This survey revealed a contination of the previously identified east-to-west aligned positive linear. The only other response of possible archaeological interest was a north-north-west to south-south-east aligned linear anomaly at the western edge of the fields. This doesn't correspond with any of the former boundaries depicted on 19th- and 20th-century maps and is therefore potentially of greater antiquity.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
