Full Description
November 2020. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The five trenches excavated revealed five linear features and a single possible pit, all of which were undated.
One of the linear features was a reasonably substantial north-west to south-east aligned ditch. The others were narrower features, aligned more north-north-west to south-south-east, perpendicular to the Yarmouth Road. One appeared to contain material identical to the topsoil and was therefore regarded as potentially relatively modern but the others were of uncertain date and nature. One had a slightly curvilinear form and another produced a Neolithic/Bronze Age retouched flint flake.
The possible pit was an unremarkable shallow sub-circular feature with a sterile fill.
Although a subsoil deposit was present across the site plough scars were noted in several of the trenches.
See report (S1) for further details.
