NHER 7381 (Cropmark and Earthwork record) - Bronze Age round Barrow at Waterhouse Lodge

Tumulus north of Thompson Water, west of Peddar's Way.
Bowl barrow with outer bank and ditch. Ditch not preserved on west (description by W. G. Clarke says deep ditch on west. All around, according to H. D. Hammond).
Schedule (S1) describes as 3.6m (12 feet) high (an exaggeration? A. J. Lawson, NAU).
Covered in bracken and birches, in birchwood.

Confusion over the siting of the ditch arises from the existance of a ditch parallel to and on the west side of Peddar's
Way (Marked 48A on Schedule Sheet 48 and 49), now silted and marshy.

48A on schedule form is indeed scheduled under same number as barrow, though it seems to have no connection.

Waterhouse Plantation. Management Unit F, Site 39:
A bowl barrow with only the eastern ditch and outer bank. The mound is 2m high and 32m in diameter, with a flattish 16m diameter top. The ditch is up to 0.7m deep with the outer bank up to 0.6m high.
Vegetation has been cleared and feature is clearly defined.
