Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two additions, constructed from Portland stone, in the form of a freestanding rectangular-plan cenotaph. This memorial was erected in 1921 to commemorate fifty-three members of the local community who died in World War One. Latterly it also commemorates seventeen members of the local community who served in World War Two, fifteen of which died. The memorial was restored in 2010, and Listed Grade II in January 2018.

Location: Esplanade Gardens, Cliff Parade, Hunstanton.
Description:
The memorial is constructed from Portland stone, in the form of a freestanding rectangular-plan cenotaph. It is used to commemorate fifty-three members of the local community who died in World War One. Latterly it also commemorates seventeen members of the local community who served in World War Two, fifteen of which died. The cenotaph is described with the south-west face bearing a bronze wreath and ribbon, and the whole monument located on a two-stepped base. There are inscriptions on the cenotaph in incised lettering (S4). The former World War One dedication starts to the south-west face (Inscription A) and continues to the south-east face with fifty-three associated names (Inscription B). The World War Two dates are to north-west face along with fifteen associated names (Inscription C). The north-east face is dedicated to the remaining two servicemen who passed post World War Two (Inscription D).

The memorial was restored and the gardens around it re-landscaped. It was later re-dedicated in 2011.
