Map

June-August 2012. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of new cottage and garage.
The only feature exposed was a large hollow that was initially thought to be of natural origin. It is though noted that quarry pits containing Saxo-Norman pottery had been recorded during archaeological work in the adjacent field (NHER 28915) and it is therefore possible that the feature at this site was of a similar nature.
A small number of unstratified finds were recovered, including prehistoric flint flakes, Roman and late post-medieval/modern pottery sherds, a medieval roof tile, a post-medieval clay tobacco pipe stem and an undatable animal bone.
See report (S1) for further details.
