Full Description
August 2014. Trial Trench.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The single trench excavated revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits.
A particularly deep sequence of soil deposits was exposed, with natural geological deposits lying up to 2m below the present ground level. It was noted that the topsoil contained numerous pieces of brick, along with fragments of mortar/cement - material that presumably represented debris from some form of structure that had once stood nearby.
Finds were limited to two Late Saxon pottery sherds and a single animal bone, all of which were recovered from subsoil deposits.
See report (S1) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 6 July 2021.
May 2017. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of residential development.
Although significant ground reduction exposed natural geological deposits across much of the site no archaeologically-significant features were recorded.
No finds were recovered.
See report (S2) for further detail.
P. Watkins (HES), 6 June 2021.
