Summary

A number of probable trackway and field boundaries are visible as cropmarks on aerial images of this field. These are clearly unrelated to the potentially prehistoric or Roman field system recorded to the south (NHER 57991) - their positions and orientations suggesting a probable medieval or later date.

Map

July 2021. Aerial Photograph Interpretation.
A group of archaeologically-significant linear cropmarks are visible at this location on (S1).
The principal features are a pair of adjacent, north-north-east to south-south-west aligned ditches that probably defined some form of trackway. A number of perpendicular features presumably represent contemporary field boundaries.
Although undated, the position and orientation of these features indicates a medieval to post-medieval date. It is notable that they all lie to the north of an east-to-west trackway represented by two parallel, adjacent east-to-west to aligned cropmarks that appear to continue the line of the extant, similarly-aligned track to the west.
These remains are clearly distinct from the potentially prehistoric or Roman field system recorded to the south (NHER 57991).
This cropmarks were first noted during an aerial photograph assessment of Coltishall airfield undertaken by HES in 2012.
