Full Description
August 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site.
This survey identified a network of north-north-west to south-south-east and east-north-east to south-south-west aligned linear anomalies – all of which correspond with former field boundaries depicted on the Kenninghall tithe map of 1840 (S1). The only other responses of note were several reasonably strong discrete anomalies deemed to be of uncertain origin and therefore potentially archaeologically significant.
Although a number of other linear anomalies were identified these are all thought to be either drainage features or agricultural in origin.
Areas of magnetic disturbance at the margins of the field and scattered discrete dipolar anomalies were probably caused by ferrous material within the topsoil, most likely modern debris.
See report (S2) for further details.
