Full Description
World War One Memorial with World War Two Additions
Location: Approximately 25m south-east of Morley Primary School, Junction of Deopham Road and St Peter's Hill, Morley.
Description:
The memorial is constructed from Cornish granite, in the form of a freestanding, rough-hewn, wheel-head cross approximately 3m tall. It is used to commemorate nine members of the local community who died in World War One, and latterly eight men who died in World War Two. It is on a tapered plinth described standing “on a single-stepped base, square on plan” (S1). The whole is within a raised enclosure, with a flint and brick retaining wall, with railings, gate, and four entrance steps. There are inscriptions to the plinth. The former World War One dedication is to the front face, along with nine associated names listed (Inscription A). The latter World War Two dedication is to the north-east face, along with eight associated names listed (Inscription B).

Unveiled: May 1920 (dedicated by the Bishop of Norwich).
Inscription A: TO OUR GLORIOUS DEAD/ IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF/ THE PARISHES OF MORLEY WHO FELL IN/ THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918/ (9 NAMES).
Inscription B: ALSO OF THOSE WHO DIED IN/ THE WAR OF 1939 - 1945/ (8 NAMES).
