Map

October 2021. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Fragmentary linear ditches, probably representing multi-phase boundaries and field boundaries, are seen as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S3). The fragmentary nature of the cropmarks, and the extensive geological cropmarks also visible, make the date and character of the site difficult to interpret. The variety of alignments evident suggests that more than one phase is represented. Finds from various periods have been recovered from the area (NHER 33096, 34606, 37543, 61718, 62242), and potentially some elements of the site could date from the prehistoric to Roman period, while others may be of Medieval to post medieval date. Post medieval field boundaries which are recorded on the Tithe (S4), Frist (S5) and Second (S6) Edition Ordnance Survey maps can also be seen as cropmarks across the area. As these features are mapped in good detail on the historic maps, the features have not been mapped as part of this project.
