World War One Memorial with World War Two Additions
Location: St Peter’s Churchyard, St Peter’s Road, West Lynn, King’s Lynn.
Description:
The memorial is constructed from Bath stone, in the form of a freestanding Latin cross. It is used to commemorate twenty-five local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly four men who died in World War Two. The cross has an octagonal section, it is described as “supported by a moulded table collar at the top of the tapering octagonal shaft with moulded foot, standing atop a square plinth and three-tiered octagonal base” (S1).

Around 2009. Restoration.
The memorial had four slate plaques added to each vertical side of the plinth between April 2008 and May 2010. There are inscriptions on the plaques in incised lettering. To the front face is the World War One dedication (Inscription A), with twenty-five associated names listed across the side faces. To the rear face are the World War Two dates, along with four associated names listed (Inscription A; S4).
Inscription A: TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN/ OF THIS PARISH/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 18.
Inscription B: 1939 – 45/ (4 NAMES).
