Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two addition, constructed from stone, in the form of a freestanding wheel-head cross. It was erected to commemorate six members of the local community who died in World War One, and latterly two men who died in World War Two. The memorial was Listed Grade II in August 2018.

Location: Approximately 20m south of St Mary's Church, The churchyard, Reedham Road, Moulton, Beighton.
Description:
The memorial is constructed from stone, in the form of a freestanding wheel-head cross. It is used to commemorate six members of the local community who died in World War One, and latterly two men who died in World War Two. It is described “with interlace decoration carved in low relief to the cross-head, standing on a two-stage plinth, square on plan, with a moulded base. The plinth’s upper stage has a moulded panel to the front. The base stands on a two-stepped octagonal base.” (S1). There are inscriptions to the plinth in incised lettering. The former World War One dedication is to the upper stage (Inscription A) and continues to the lower stage, along with six associated names listed by regiment, with rank and regiment details (Inscription B; S5). There is a latter World War Two dedication [placement unknown] with two associated names (Inscription C).

Inscription B: GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF/ THE MEN OF MOULTON ST MARY/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914-1918/ (6 NAMES)/ "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE".
Inscription C: ALSO IN MEMORY OF/ (2 NAMES)/ WHO FELL IN THE 1939 – 1945 WAR.
