World War One Memorial with World War Two Additions
Location: Junction of The Hills and Riverside, Reedham.
Description:
The memorial is constructed from a grey granite, in the form of a freestanding stone pillar. It is used to commemorate eighteen local servicemen, and one servicewoman, who died in World War One; and latterly six men who died in World War Two. It has four sides and is described “with a cornice and pointed cap, a two-tiered moulded foot, upon a square plinth and a two-tiered base.” The whole is stated to be “within a narrow, railed enclosure built into a green bank with a concrete foundation platform” (S1). There are inscriptions to the plinth in incised lettering. The former World War One dedication is to the front face (Inscription A) and divided across the side faces are the nineteen associated names, including rank. The latter World War Two dedication is to the rear face along with six associated names (Inscription B; S4).

Unveiled: Erected around 1920.
Inscription A: TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY/ OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE/ GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1918.
Inscription B: ALSO TO THE MEMORY OF/ THOSE WHO FELL IN THE/ 1939 – 1945 WAR/ (6 NAMES).
