World War One Memorial with World War Two Additions
Location: Guild Street, Junction of Wells Road and Knight Street, Little Walsingham, Walsingham.
Description:
The memorial is approximately 5m tall and constructed from stone, in the form of a freestanding wheel-head cross. It is used to commemorate twenty-two local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly three servicemen who died in World War Two. It is described with “a slender, tapering shaft with a collar at the top and moulded base.” Standing on “an octagonal plinth, also moulded, on a three-stepped octagonal base” (S1). There are inscriptions to the plinth in incised lettering (S4). The former World War One dedication is to the front face (Inscription A), with the associated twenty-two names listed to the faces either side. The latter World War Two dedication and three associated names is to the rear face (Inscription B; S5).

Unveiled: Erected around 1920.
Inscription A: TO THE HONOUR OF/ GOD OUR PRESERVER/ AND IN GRATEFUL/ REMEMBRANCE/ OF THE MEN OF/ LITTLE WALSINGHAM/ AND EGMERE/ WHO GAVE/ THEIR LIVES IN/ THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1919.
Inscription B: THIS INSCRIPTION/ COMMEMORATES/ (3 NAMES)/ WHO GAVE/ THEIR LIVES IN/ THE 1939 - 45 WAR/ THE MEMORIAL/ RECREATION GROUND/ IN WELLS ROAD/ WALSINGHAM/ IS IN THEIR HONOUR/ AND IN GRATITUDE/ TO ALL WHO/ CONTRIBUTED TO/ VICTORY.
