Summary

Site of a post-medieval windmill that was possible here as early as 1771. It was replaced by a brick tower mill in 1845 and the last record of in being in use is from 1900.

Site of windmill marked on Ordnance Survey First Edition (S1). Close to 19th-century spring-fed watermill (NHER 12495).
Previously recorded under NHER 12495.

Informant [1] adds the following details: the wind mill was here as early as 1771 (though not on (S2)); John Crome depicted it before 1813. The post wind mill was replaced by a brick tower mill, called 'newly erected' in 1845. The post mill body was taken to Banham (NHER 10859) as a composite mill in about 1840. The last record of a miller 'wind, water and steam' is in 1900.
