Full Description
November-December 2011 and May 2012. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed mineral extraction area (Field F).
This survey identified a number of fragmentary east-to-west and north-to-south aligned linear anomalies that potentially represent former field boundary ditches. Those towards the southern end of the site may relate to an adjacent group of medieval or later enclosures visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (recorded as NHER 50835). An band of positive area anomalies at the southern edge of the site may represent an area of former quarrying, although the irregular nature of these responses means they are equally likely to be geological in origin.
A number of scattered discrete bipolar anomalies were probably caused by metal objects on or near the surface (most likely modern debris).
Information from report uploaded to OASIS. HER copy awaited.
