Full Description
May 2018. Desk-based Assessment.
Environmental Impact Assessment of the potential impacts of the proposed Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm on the historic environment. This study incorporated the results of an initial walkover survey and the first phases of geophysical survey.
See relevant chapter of Environmental Statement and associated appendices for further detail (S1).
P. Watkins (HES), 2 February 2023.
December 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore substation site (Area 2).
The only responses identified as being of potential interest were a single curvi-linear anomaly and a nearby pair of discrete anomalies. These are though all regarded as being of undetermined origin and therefore not necessarily associated with archaeologically-significant remains.
There was no evidence for surviving remains associated with an east-to-west aligned Roman road that crossed this site (NHER 52027), traces of which are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs of fields to the west and east (recorded separately as NHERs 52024 and 52026). The survey of the field immediately to the west did though identify weak linear anomalies that coincided with the line of this road (see NHER 66380).
There was also no evidence for sub-surface remains associated with a pair of adjacent north-west to south-east aligned cropmarks recorded in the north-east corner of the site (part of a group recorded as NHER 52133).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 2 February 2023.
February-June 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (P2TT108; Trenches 886-895 and 941-942).
The 12 trenches excavated at this location revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. This was despite two of the trenches coinciding with the most notable of the anomalies recorded by the preceding geophysical survey and another with two previously mapped cropmarks (part of the group recorded as NHER 52133). It should though be noted that none of the trenches intersected with the line of the Roman road that crossed the site (NHER 52027).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 2 February 2023.
