Summary

A geophysical survey of this site in 2021 identified a linear anomaly that clearly corresponds with a former field boundary that had been extant feature until relatively recently. A number of other linear anomalies may present archaeologically-significant remains, although all are regarded as being of undetermined origin.

Map

October-November 2020. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Anglian Water Norwich to Wymondham water pipeline (Area 20).
This survey identified a range of linear anomalies, including a north-north-east to south-south-west aligned response at the western end of the site that clearly corresponds with a former field boundary depicted on the Wymondham tithe map (S1). It is possible that at least some of the other linear anomalies represent archaeologically-significant remains, although all are regarded as being of undetermined origin.
Scattered discrete dipolar anomalies and areas of magnetic disturbance at the margins of the surveyed areas probably represent ferrous material on or near the ground surface (most likely modern debris).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
