Summary

A hoard of post medieval copper alloy coins in a lead tobacco jar was found beneath an oak tree on Common Farm. The coins included George III cartwheel pennies, George II cartwheel pennies, a George III cartwheel penny with the word Love stamped on it and a defaced Victoria penny dated 1844. Three modern shoes were also found.

Hoard of copper coins found in lead tobacco jar.
Thirteen George III cartwheel pence, dates illegible.
Three George II cartwheel pence 1797.
One George III cartwheel penny, edge battered, the word Love stamped on.
One Victoria penny 1844, defaced with several impressions of a sunlike stamp with eight rays.
All extremely worn.
Total 1/6d.
Three shoes found but these are 20th century.
