Map

April 2016. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of new commercial buildings.
Ground reduction and the excavation of foundation and service trenches exposed structural remains of probable late post-medieval date including brick wall footings, several tiled surfaces and a brick-lined well. The wall footings at least probable relate to a building that occupied the southern half of the in the late 19th-century, which is visible on the Ordnance Survey First Edition Six-inch map (S1). It is not entirely clear which building the tiled surfaces were associated with, although they were probably of a similar age - being made of pamment tiles that were probably of late 18th- to 19th-century date.
No earlier remains were identified and no finds recovered.
See report (S2) for further details.
