Map

A group of military buildings associated with Downham Market airfield (NHER 2455) are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946. These comprise three parallel main structures (possibly accommodation blocks), surrounded by several smaller structures and roads. A small square structure adjacent to the main access road to the south was probably some form of guard post. If the main structure were indeed accommodation blocks the small number present and their relative isolation suggest that they may have housed officers and/or NCOs. The majority of the buildings visible on the aerial photographs are depicted on an Ordnance Survey Six-inch map published in 1952 (S1), but all were subsequently demolished. The site is now ploughed arable land and recent aerial imagery provides no evidence for surviving remains at this location.
