Summary

A group of military buildings associated with Downham Market airfield (NHER2455) are visible at this location on aerial photographs taken in 1946. See NHERs 63351, 65670, 66474-66475 and 66477-66483 for details of the other satellite sites associated with the World War Two airfield.

Map

A group of military buildings associated with Downham Market airfield (NHER 2455) are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946. All are smaller than the probable accommodation blocks visible at nearby sites and it is likely that most were Nissen hut-type structures. Nothing is depicted at this location on an Ordnance Survey Six-inch map published in 1952 (S1), suggesting that most, if not all of these structures had been removed by this time. The site is now ploughed arable land and recent aerial imagery provides no evidence for surviving remains at this location.
See NHERs 63351, 65670, 66474-66475 and 66477-66483 for details of the other satellite sites associated with the World War Two airfield.
