Summary

A group of military buildings associated with Downham Market airfield (NHER2455) are visible at this location on aerial photographs taken in 1946. These were still present in the 1950s but all were subsequently demolished. The remains of these structures may though survive within the woodland plantation that now occupies the site. See NHERs 63351, 65670, 66474-66478 and 66480-66483 for details of the other satellite sites associated with the World War Two airfield.

Map

A group of military buildings associated with Downham Market airfield (NHER 2455) are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946. The functions of the buildings at this location are unclear at present, although most were probably accommodation blocks. The majority of these structures are depicted on an Ordnance Survey Six-inch map published in 1952 (S1), but all were subsequently demolished. The area is now occupied by a woodland plantation, so it is possible the remains of these buildings still survive, particularly as modern mapping shows that the original access road and the main internal roads are still present.
