Summary

A watching brief maintained during the excavation of a pipe trench at this location in 2013 recorded a ditch of uncertain date, a single sherd of Late Saxon pottery being the only dating evidence recovered.

Maintained during installation of new water main.
A north-to-south aligned ditch was noted within the narrow pipe trench excavated, at c. TF 7784 1543. A single sherd of Late Saxon pottery and a fragment of animal bone were recovered from the fill of this feature.
An undatable tapering copper alloy strip and a fragment of lead waste were the only unstratified finds.
