Summary

A geophysical survey undertaken in 2021 identified several weak linear anomalies that might represent archaeologically-significant remains, although this was far from certain. The only other anomalies of note were all probably associated with the World War Two airfield (NHER 8170).

October 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of part of large proposed development area (Area 12).
This survey identified a number of linear anomalies that potentially represent archaeologically-significant remains. The nature of these weak anomalies is though uncertain.
The only other anomalies of notes are all probably associated with the World War Two airfield that was present at this location (NHER 8170). These include several amorphous areas of magnetic disturbance in the eastern half of the field and a discrete anomaly at TG 2832 1501 that potentially relates to a circular emplacement visible at this location on 1946 aerial photographs (recorded under NHER 8170).
There was no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with single linear cropmark visible on aerial photographs of this field (part of a group of undated and post-medieval field boundaries and other remains recorded as NHER 50725).
See report (S2) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 8 November 2023.

March 2022. Desk-based Assessment.
Updated archaeological assessment of large proposed development.
See report (S3) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 7 March 2023.
