Full Description
October 2015. Desk-based Assessment.
Assessment of potential archaeological impact of proposed development.
See report (S1) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 5 November 2023.
November 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The initial clearance of the site exposed the concrete pad that had once supported a fuel storage compound for Rackheath airfield. This concrete pad was fully recorded and then removed prior to the commencement of the trial trenching (see NHER 67559 for additional information on these remains).
The nine trenches excavated revealed only a single feature – an undated post-hole or small pit. There was though little evidence for recent disturbance or truncation, with a reasonably deep subsoil surviving across the site.
No finds were recovered.
See report (S2) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2023.13).
P. Watkins (HES), 5 November 2023. Amended 27 April 2024.
