Summary

Trial trenching at this site in 2022 revealed little evidence for surviving archaeological remains, with only an undated post-hole or small pit recorded. This work took place following the removal of a concrete pad that had been associated with a fuel storage compound for Rackheath airfield (see NHERs 8170 and 67559).

November 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The initial clearance of the site exposed the concrete pad that had once supported a fuel storage compound for Rackheath airfield. This concrete pad was fully recorded and then removed prior to the commencement of the trial trenching (see NHER 67559 for additional information on these remains).
The nine trenches excavated revealed only a single feature – an undated post-hole or small pit. There was though little evidence for recent disturbance or truncation, with a reasonably deep subsoil surviving across the site.
No finds were recovered.
See report (S2) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2023.13).
