Map

November 2022. Test Pit.
Excavation of single test pit following construction of new dwellings and associated outbuildings. This work was undertaken as mitigation after the groundworks for these new buildings took place without the required archaeological watching brief.
Despite the small size of the test pit it was possible to identified two intercutting features, the earlier of which was a probable north-to-south aligned ditch that produced two sherds of early medieval pottery. This was cut by a pit that contained a post-medieval pantile fragment. A number of additional post-medieval finds were recovered from the overlying soil layers, including pottery sherd, brick and tile fragments and pieces of window and bottle glass.
See report (S1) for further details.
