Full Description
March 2009-March 2010. Watching Brief.
Maintained during the excavation of a new drainage dyke as part of the Broadland Flood Alleviation Project (Compartment 7).
A north-west to south-east aligned ditch of relatively recent date was recorded at approximately TG 4455 1938. Find recovered from the machine-excavated fills of this feature included 71 pottery sherds of post-medieval and late post-medieval/modern date, a post-medieval brick and a fragment of ?iron slag. Oyster shells and fragments of wood were also noted. The bulk of the pottery is of late 18th- to 19th-century date and includes pieces of two porcelain vessels from toy tea sets.
Unstratified finds recovered along this section of the works were limited to a small assemblage of late medieval/early post-medieval and late post-medieval/modern pottery.
See report (S1) for further details.
