Map

Site of post-medieval icehouse in grounds of 7 Carrow Hill (NHER 47932). This structure is the reason that the lane to the south is known as Ice House Lane. The Ordnance Survey 1:500 Town Plan map of 1885 (S1) shows that it lay beneath a mound adjacent to the southern boundary wall of the garden and was accessed via a set of steps to the north. 7 Carrow Hill itself was reputedly built around 1790 but the exact date the icehouse was constructed is unknown.
P. Watkins (HES), 17 April 2023.

NIAS records (S2) suggest that this icehouse was disused from around 1894 and demolished in 1937 to make way for a garage.
Previously noted under NHER 47932.
W. Arnold (HES), 25 January 2011. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 17 April 2023.
