Full Description
The below features were previously recorded as part of NHER 21834
August 2022. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The cropmarks of possible Iron Age to Roman boundary ditches are seen on aerial photographs (S1-S5). The features consist of a series of linear ditches and a curvilinear ditch in the north of the record. The features most likely relate to a series of boundary ditches. It also possible that some of the features may have related to sections of rectilinear and curvilinear enclosures. The features may date to the Roman period. Although an earlier Iron Age date for the features is also possible. The features are on a similar alignment to a possible Roman rectilinear enclosure to the southeast (NHER 65793). A high number Roman finds (NHER 33592) have also been previously recorded across the area. A series of possible medieval to post medieval field boundaries (NHER 21834) are also visible on the aerial photographs. Some of the possible medieval to post medieval field boundaries appear to cross the possible Iron Age to Roman boundary ditches. It is also possible that some the features interpreted to be Iron age to Roman in date could be later, possibly dating to the medieval to post medieval period.
