Map

March-April 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The six trenches excavated revealed a number of ditches and pits, all of which were undated - stratified finds being limited to two prehistoric worked flints and several fragments of animal bone.
A number of the ditches were aligned roughly north-to-south and were therefore potentially of roughly the same date. No corresponding features are shown in the available 19th-century and later maps.
The pits appears to have all been fairly unremarkable features with sterile fills.
The small assemblage of unstratified finds recovered comprises several prehistoric worked flints, two post-medieval pottery sherds, medieval or post-medieval peg tile fragments, a piece of post-medieval clay pipe stem, fragments of lava quern and several animal bones.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
