Full Description
August 2013. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The three trenches excavated revealed a ditch and a single pit. The ditch was an east-to-west aligned feature recorded in the westernmost trench that contained fragments of undiagnostic but probably post-medieval ceramic building material. It was not observed in the other trenches (which lay on its projected line). The pit was a small feature in the easternmost trench with charcoal-rich fills but no evidence for in situ burning. It produced no finds but is also thought to have been of relatively recent date.
Unstratified finds were limited to a rolled prehistoric flint flake, post-medieval brick fragments and an undatable fragment of metal-working debris.
See report (S1) for further details.
