Summary

This range of two-storey warehouses to the rear of St George's Guildhall (NHER 5483) was extended westwards as the river bank receded. The earlier, east end was probably erected in around 1420, not long after the completion of the Guildhall, while the western end probably dates to the late 15th-century. The range has seen much rebuilding, with the western part entirely rebuilt during the early 18th century in English bond brickwork.

"Range of warehouses extending from the rear of St George's Guildhall towards river. Gabled ranges attached as river bank receeded to west. East end c.1420 on completion of Guildhall, west end probably late 15th century. Much rebuilding since disguises age of western parts. Mainly brick with pantiled roofs. Two storeys. The eastern portion itself occupies two distinct builds, the east part with coursed ashlar to ground floor of early 15th century, pierced by three large doorways. 16th-century brick above rapidly gives way to 18th- and 20th-century brick to first floor. Five metal 20th-century leaded casements to first floor. Gabled roof. West of this is a later range almost entirely rebuilt early 18th century in English bond brickwork. 20th-century door to right under canvas awning. Two storeys. Fenestration of 20th-century bottom-hung casements. Gabled roof continues. Rehearsal rooms continue same theme. One three-light lap-glazed ground-floor window, and a five-light one above. Gabled roof continues."
