Full Description
Westernmost range of warehouses to rear of St George's Guildhall (NHER 5483).
June 1972. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description excerpt:
"Range of warehouses attached to gable-end of eastern warehouse as river receded west. Late 15th century. Long rectangular single-storeyed range. Brick with roof of machine tiles. South flank rebuilt 17th and 18th century, altered 20th century. Pierced at intervals by 20th-century windows and doors. Gabled roof. North flank undisturbed late 15th-century English bond brick which continues into west gable, but with much repair. 20th-century window in gable-head. Brick wall continues south along present river line and contains a blocked entrance with a chamfered brick arch. This is the former watergate which would have opened directly into a warehouse, suggesting that the restaurant warehouse was much wider until narrowed in the 17th century.
INTERIOR. Roof of re-used cambered tie beams. Two tiers staggered butt purlins, taper-tenoned. Renewed collars, i.e. mid 18th century."
