Map

July 2021. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Ditch features possibly relating to a series of multi period boundaries and enclosures are seen as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1). In the west of the site (centred at approximately TG 1437 2316) there are multiple linear ditch features which may have related to a series of possible field boundaries and enclosures. It possible that these features may be Iron Age to Roman in date. The small sections of ditch (centred at TG 1429 2313) may have related to a small enclosure; however, it is possible that these features are natural in origin. Further possible enclosures can be seen in the east of the site including a possible rectilinear enclosure centred at approximately at TG 1477 2308. There are two roughly north south aligned linear ditches to the north of the possible enclosure. It is unclear as to whether these ditch features overlay or are cut by the enclosure. Again, it is possible that these features are Iron Age to Roman in date. In the centre of the area (centred at approximately TG 1463 2316 there are three ditches on a roughly northwest – south east alignment. It possible that these features are part of a different phase to the features in the east and west of the site. It is possible that these features are medieval – post medieval in date; however, it is also possible that these features could be Iron Age to Roman in date. There is a large amount of geological cropmarks seen on the consulted sources across the site and is possible that some of the mapped features maybe natural in origin. The features are in close proximity to a possible later prehistoric sub-circular enclosure (NHER 58227) approximately 120m to the south. A large amount of previously recorded multi period finds have been recovered in close proximity to the mapped features (NHER 25253, 25254, 33889, 33890).
