Full Description
December 2014. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site.
This survey identified a number of potentially archaeologically-significant linear anomalies. The most notable are a north-east to south-west positive anomaly crossing the eastern half of the site and an adjacent perpendicular shorter response that may represent infilled ditches of some antiquity. Several north-north-west to south-south-east aligned linear anomalies and a single east-to-west aligned linear anomaly are also present in this half of the site. The alignment of these responses suggests they are potentially associated with former field boundaries of a more recent date (their orientations being similar to those of nearby extant field boundaries and former boundaries depicted on historic maps).
Strong bipolar linear anomalies in the westernmost part of the site are related to modern services. An area of strong magnetic disturbance likely to represent made ground and smaller areas of magnetic disturbance likely to be associated with modern rubbish are also present in this part of the site.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
