Summary

A World War One memorial with World War Two additions in the form of an Eleanor Cross made of Clipsham stone. It commemorates the servicemen and women of Sheringham town and Beeston Regis village and was dedicated in January 1921.

Location: South-east side of a small garden in The Boulevard, Sheringham
Type: Eleanor Cross
Description: The memorial is in the form of a cross made from Clipsham stone, standing on a two-step hexagonal base. It is 9 metres high with a low, decorative railing around the lower step. The memorial tapers upwards to a circular stone roof, which is “surmounted by a small Greek cross on an orb, the memorial’s central column rises through two tiers of Gothic design. The lower tier is decorated with a band of trefoils set under six Gothic pediments. The upper tier is plainer, consisting of a blind arcade of cusped lancets.” (S2) The inscription is on the side of the lower tier, with the names arranged in year-group order. It commemorates the servicemen and women from Sheringham town and Beeston Regis village.
