Summary

A World War One memorial with World War Two additions commemorating the fallen of Blakeney. The memorial is in the form of a pedestal with a triangular pediment. It was erected in 1921 in conjunction with two memorial cottages to the rear of the memorial.

Type: Pedestal
Description: The memorial is in the form of a rectangular pedestal with a triangular pediment made of brick and flint. It stands on a two-stepped plinth tiled with terracotta. The inscriptions are written on marble tablets. The original WW1 inscription is in a “round-headed niche” (S3). At the base of the pedestal an additional tablet lists the WW2 fallen. On both sides of the pedestal are low flint walls with “brick coping, plinths, and square end piers” (S3). The memorial cottages are around 12 metres behind the memorial and were built on land donated by Anna Turner on the south side of New Road.

1990s. Restoration.
A new inscription tablet was placed over the original marble tablet by Blakeney Parish Council. There are four errors in the new inscriptions: the letter G was replaced by the letter C in four names, which should read C.A.G. Cooke, G.P. Hudson, G. King, and N.G. Cooke.
