Summary

A World War One memorial with World War Two additions commemorating the servicemen of Great Snoring. The memorial is in the form of an engrailed cross made of Clipsham stone. It was unveiled in May 1921.

Location: The churchyard, St Mary’s Church, The Street, Great Snoring
Type: Engrailed Cross
Description: The memorial is in the form of an engrailed cross made of Clipsham stone. The shaft sits on top of the churchyard wall. The inscriptions are placed on a bronze plaque directly below the cross shaft, attached to the roadside face of the churchyard wall. The bronze plaque was likely added between WW1 and WW2, as the names were originally placed on the stone base of the memorial before the plaque was extant. The plaque was extended following WW2.

Inscription: TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN HONOURED MEMORY OF/ THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE GREAT WAR. 1914-1919/ (22 NAMES).
1939-1946/ (2 NAMES).
