Full Description
World War One memorial with World War Two additions
Location: The Street, Hemsby
Type: Wheel-head Cross
Description: The memorial is in the form of a wheel-head cross made of granite. The cross is placed upon a plinth which sits atop a low step. The inscription is on the front face of the plinth. Behind the memorial is a curved wall of brick and flint. There are additional inscriptions on the wall, with a biblical quotation in the centre and WW2 additions on the left and right on tablets made of Portland stone. The wall was likely built following the Second World War.

Unveiled: Assumed planned and erected around 1920, when the majority of Norfolk’s war memorials were commissioned. The memorial was extant by 1927. Additional research required.

2006. Restoration.
The memorial was restored in 2006 following a grant from the War Memorials Trust. This included repairing the wall behind the memorial and repainting the inscriptions.
