Map

A mound here was levelled 'some years before' 1907.
Information from (S1).

10 May 1978. Visit.
Field is not on a hill which confirms that the name came from a mound. It does however rise slightly to some old trees at its highest point, but these now surround a modern shed (this may be just in the next parish).
E. Rose (NAU).

In fact the mound was levelled 'some years' before the late 18th century, as the reference from (S1) is from (S2) who in turn is quoting verbatim (S3)! The latter describes it as a large hill now levelled, which was an important gallows site.
E. Rose (NAU).
