Summary

A World War One memorial with World War Two additions commemorating the servicemen of Great Massingham. The memorial is in the form of a cross bottonée made of Portland stone. It was unveiled in November 1920.

Location: St Mary’s Churchyard, Church Lane, Great Massingham
Type: Cross Bottonée
Description: The memorial is in the form of a cross bottonée made of Portland stone. The cross is a Greek cross with a trefoil at the end of each arm. The cross has an octagonal shaft. The shaft has a collar in the shape of the crown; the finials of the crown are shaped like trefoils. The shaft is placed on a square base which sits atop a square plinth. The plinth is placed on top of a three-step base. The entire memorial is placed on a tapering stone block. The inscriptions are placed on the plinth faces, with the main inscription on the west face. The WW2 addition is placed on the south face of the shaft base.
